After an amazing show with a FIVE STAR review from The Age in 2012, PETULANT FRENZY returns to the Caravan in 2013. “The best Zappa covers band I’ve heard...” – Arthur Barrow, Zappa’s bass player ’78-‘80/’83
PETULANT FRENZY is a group of musicians from Sydney, Australia who share a love of the music of Frank Zappa. They also share the outrageous fearlessness required to tackle Frank Zappa’s spectacular oeuvre. Not concentrating on any particular era, album or form allows them to careen wildly between Zappa’s many genres and put shows together that are less about presenting the music/moustache as a xeroxed museum exhibit, but more about performing it the way Frank would hopefully have enjoyed hearing it – an eyebrow-wiggling blend of total respect and utter irreverence. Giving strong evidence of a desire for frivolity and musical narcissism over an apparent lack of self-control and good sense, the Frenzy has recently morphed into an eleven-piece, so punters are advised to bring a helmet. Expect plenty of notes, much silliness, lumps of seriousness, various stagecraft devices, served with great, steaming dollops of the unexpected.
