IF YOU HATE OPERA YOU WILL LOVE THIS! "Energy, verve, courage and imagination, a clever concept. Director Julie Edwardson kept the action moving..." the Age.
An exciting night of two one hour operas which have been adapted to appeal to a broad range of musical tastes. Contrasting up and coming opera and music theatre singers with professional jazz, blues and contemporary performers. The operas are presented in a grunge, street theatre style production, with a healthy dose of humour, love, irreverence and disrespect thrown in. This is opera at the lowest level with no boring bits!!
HUMPERDINK’S HANSEL AND GRETEL: A dysfunctional family, teenagers from hell and the wicked witch of the Esplanade. Kooky, funny and quite scary with an evil brew of gospel, soul, folk, jazz, blues and Latin.
PUCCINI’S TOSCA: Love, war, sex and betrayal fused with nostalgic French inspired pop and blues in an original interpretation of this much loved classic. Its melodramatic plot centres on Floria Tosca, a celebrated opera singer; her lover, Mario Cavaradossi, an artist; and Scarpia, Rome’s ruthless Regent of Police. By the end of the opera, all three are dead.
